Our Story

We are a family team, Christine, Joel, and Gigi.  Our Story is a love story.  Layers and layers of love.

Christine has had a life-long love of interior design.  She followed her passion, obtained a professional degree, developed a career in Interior Design, and owned her own Interior Design business practicing in Chicago for many years.  Her love for great design has permeated life at home together with her husband Joel and their daughter Gigi.

Joel owns and runs a successful Home Remodelling and Construction business serving Chicagoland, primarily DuPage County for the past 20 years.  In addition to his ongoing work with his company HGR Construction Services he has carved out time to support his family in the operations of Salvaged Beauty Rugs and finds himself absolutely loving it.

 

Gigi has grown up in a home knowing this:  how we feel living in our personal space transfers to how we feel about ourselves in the outside world, in our community.  When our home's interior is beautiful, colorful, and artful, we carry this happiness within ourselves outside our home.  And when we return home we love what surrounds us.  We know it is personal and unique to us, reflecting our sense of self. 

 

We also care deeply about sustainable living practices and making eco-conscious choices.  Practicing reducing energy by using less resources and lessening waste is important to us and having vintage rugs in our living spaces supports this goal.  These vintage rugs are truly INCREDIBLE, not only because they are beautiful one-of-a-kind works of art, but because they have their own love stories to tell.  They have all been woven by hand, knot by knot, many years ago.  They will now have their next chapter with you, in your homes.  They have many more years to go and can be passed down to future generations.  The love endures.  These quality rugs endure and they stand the test of time.

We select each and every individual rug in our collection, the best of the best, chosen for their beauty, condition, and uniqueness.  We have developed solid trusting relationships with our sources around the world.  When we unpack a sourced vintage rug we actually jump around with joy and happy dance.  Vintage rugs are gorgeous and well suited for active living spaces.  They easily coexist with kids and pets and their wool makes them inherently durable and resistant to whatever mess life can bring.  (We have a section on our website About Vintage Rugs for those who are new to learning about their amazing qualities and care.)

 

The world of vintage rugs has been a wonderful way for our family to experience more joy in life.  These rugs are cozy and offer comfort, and they provide a way to express a sense of personal style and individuality.  A single rug can make a room.  Multiple rugs can make a home.  This is how our small business, Salvaged Beauty Rugs, came to be.  Our world needs more love and joy.  Our love story continues.
